This is my page! I'm Kaylee. Thanks for visiting and hope you like what you see.
I'm a sophomore in the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. I love the city of Eugene and I've gotten to pursue some incredible opportunities during my short time at school. Currently I work as a staff writer for Emerald Media Group. I've covered both Campus Events on the Arts & Culture desk, and the ASUO (student government) for the News desk. I have also contributed heavily to coverage of breaking news, such as the recent GTF strike at the UO. Balancing the commitments of student and striving to uphold professional standards as a journalist has been an invaluable learning experience, both personally and professionally.
I spent this past summer in London, one of the most thriving locales in the world for business, politics, art, music, cultural intersections of every kind. The city is a journalist's dream. Perhaps most significantly, visiting sites like Westminster and City Hall pointed me in a new direction. My class had the privilege of sitting in on special councils of Parliament and meetings between the Assembly of London and the Mayor. This, coupled with some experiences from high school, helped me realize that politics was the area of reporting to which I felt the most called. In addition to a Journalism degree, I'm now pursuing a Political Science minor.
I have learned more in the past year and a half than I ever would have imagined about my own raw passion for journalism. My resume speaks to my experience. Here I will only promise what I know I can offer: a skill set that I am only continuing to grow and hone, an ever-present desire to be better, and the guts and determination to keep working to present the best stories possible. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
